The Ponderosa Room Has A Western Feel. It is Our Only Dog-friendly Room.

Blue Mountain Bed and Breakfast Missoula MontanaBlue Mountain B and B Missoula Montana Bed and Breakfast

The Ponderosa Room, like the Sage Brush and Bitterroot Rooms, has a Western feel. Located in the main house, it is a nice alternative to the Rose Room which has Victorian appeal, or the Syringa Suite which offers a Japanese decor. The Ponderosa is also our only dog-friendly room. We keep all other rooms and common areas pet-free so that those with severe allergies can fully enjoy the bed and breakfast.

The Ponderosa, priced like the Sage Brush, ($129 low season and $145 high season) is the only room not listed on our reservation page. To avoid an over-booking of the bed and breakfast, we ask that you call to reserve the Ponderosa Room if you are interested.

About the room...
The Ponderosa is a welcoming and very relaxing room, with a locally hand crafted king-sized log bed, pillow-top mattress and down comforter. Sliding glass doors open onto a private deck where one can sit and enjoy the amazing Missoula valley view and towering ponderosa pines. The bath is done in granite and tile and includes a one-person jetted tub/shower combination. From either the recliner or bed, a person can read, enjoy the view or snuggle in and watch movies on the flat screen TV with DVD player. A small fridge and air conditioning unit are included.

The Ponderosa Room’s decor takes a person “into the woods.” The trim work is done with blued ponderosa pine, milled from several trees right here on the mountain. Tools of the trade from days gone by are artistically mounted on several walls, telling a story of Swedish-American heritage that was linked to forestry and farming. Many of the displayed tools belonged to Elaine’s great grandfather, Axel Emil Anderson, who worked as a log scaler in a sawmill before emigrating to America from Sweden. There are also many tools and family artifacts on display in the library, just next door. These belonged to Axel’s brother, Ole Anderson, who not only was a carpenter by trade, but was one of the very first guides, photographers and entrepreneurs in Yellowstone Park. A hand-made “pioneer”quilt hangs over the bed of the Ponderosa Room, a reminder of the hard-earned accomplishments made by those who came west in the early days. The quilt is a treasured wedding gift, made by Elaine’s P.E.O. sister, Sally Wright, in 2002.

The Ponderosa Room is definitely a bear’s dream come true, and several “have taken up residency” on the plush bed. What’s not to like about this cozy room that looks out over majestic pine trees and comes with a different breakfast assortment each day which just might include blueberry-huckleberry sourdoughs, home-made biscuits with valley-grown honey or oven broiled macadamia nut French toast served with an assortment of maple and berry syrups. SWEET DREAMS!

Animal’s Rule:
Well mannered dogs (and some cats and other fuzzy fellows- please inquire) are welcome in the Ponderosa Room. We allow either one medium-large dog or two small dogs at a time. We ask that if your dog has to be left alone in the room that it be crated. There is a flat $30 “fuzz” fee per dog for the first 3 days ($5 a day there after.) Please bring a leash so you can enjoy the many trails behind the bed and breakfast.
